How a rigid box is made

1. Dieline and proof: we draw the flat template of your box to your exact size and send you a digital proof to approve.
2. Board cutting: the box shell is cut from rigid greyboard, the thick, dense board that gives rigid boxes their strength.
3. Wrapping: the board is wrapped in your chosen paper, printed or plain, and the edges are turned in for a clean finish.
4. Finishing: foil, embossing, debossing or spot UV is applied to the logo or pattern.
5. Inserts and assembly: foam, card or velvet inserts are fitted, and magnets, ribbons or handles are added.
6. Quality check and packing: every order is checked against the approved proof, then export-packed.

Common questions about rigid boxes

What is the difference between a rigid box and a folding carton? A folding carton is a single sheet of card that folds flat. A rigid box is built from thick greyboard wrapped in paper, so it never folds flat and feels much more solid. Read our full comparison of rigid boxes and folding cartons.

Can rigid boxes be shipped flat? Most rigid boxes are shipped already built, which protects their shape. Some display styles can be shipped flat-packed to save space; we tell you in your quote.

Are rigid boxes recyclable? Greyboard and paper wrapping are paper-based. Choosing a card insert instead of foam and avoiding plastic lamination makes a box easier to recycle.
